Mark Taggart

Mark Taggart is a Professor of Music Composition at East Carolina University.  He writes opera, (The Dreamer, Swan’s Inlet, The Doctor on the Mound,) for symphony orchestra, (Concerto da camera for Guitar, Symphony of Spirituals, Tarantella,) wind ensemble, (Uncertain Times, W S H, Passage,) and has written numerous solo, chamber and choral works, including the saxophone chamber orchestra (Lament and Credo, Meditation, only rhythm and…). He teaches composition and basic musicianship classes. He also served as Chair of the University Faculty from 2006-08.  His recent works include a set of variations for concert organist Colin Andrews. He is currently at work on a one act opera for a spring, 2024 premiere. He studied composition with Karel Husa, Steven Stucky, and Robert Palmer. He is an avid, long-time runner.
